Design Narrative
In land-scarce Singapore, true seaside living is a luxury few can afford. At the NTUC Senior Daycare Centre in Pasir Ris, we brought that elusive beachfront dream to life—reimagined as a warm, accessible, and engaging eldercare environment that evokes the charm of a seaside retreat.
The design brief was to create a vibrant and therapeutic space for seniors that transcends institutional aesthetics. The solution? A multi-sensory journey that integrates biophilic design, coastal motifs, and purposeful spatial flow, all infused with D’Perception Ritz’s signature creativity.
The Arrival – A Bistro by the Sea
Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by a cozy bistro-inspired space, reminiscent of stepping off a breezy jetty into a coastal café. The palette mirrors the sea—turquoise blues, soft dune beiges, and sky whites—punctuated with lush greenery and warm timber tones.
Leaf-motif timber screens, pendant lights, and suspended rings with hanging plants frame the space, introducing a calming biophilic environment. Curved bench seating and textured materials add tactile interest and comfort, reinforcing a sense of relaxed elegance.
Dining Redefined – A Space to Gather, Dine, and Play
The main dining area becomes the social heart of the centre. Framed by floor-to-ceiling windows and augmented by live indoor plants and overhanging ferns, it offers multiple seating arrangements that encourage both mingling and solitary relaxation.
The integration of modular furniture ensures flexibility, while timber-clad columns with vertical green elements soften the volume of the space. Thoughtful details like curved table legs enhance comfort and safety for users.
Dining here is not just about nourishment—it’s about connection, joy, and engagement. Interwoven with food-themed games and activities, mealtimes are transformed into social experiences that spark appetite and delight.
The Activity Hall – A Seaside Chalet Escape
As the day winds down, seniors move into a double-volume activity space designed to feel like a seaside chalet. Wall murals of coconut trees and birds, textured flooring that mimics lapping waves, and comfortable lounge furniture turn this area into a tranquil oasis.
Whether watching a movie or sipping tea, this space is crafted to evoke calm and contentment—an idyllic end to a well-spent day.
Voices of Joy
The feedback has been heartening. Seniors describe the centre as “cozy,” “bright,” “beautiful,” and akin to “a high-class coffee house” or “a seaside chalet.” Their joy and comfort reaffirm our belief that design has the power to uplift and transform everyday experiences.
A Dining Experience Worth Celebrating
Awarded Dining Space of the Year, the NTUC Pasir Ris Senior Daycare Centre stands as a testament to the belief that care spaces can be vibrant, uplifting, and deeply humane. At D’Perception Ritz, we design not just for form and function—but for the soul.

For an island surrounded by the sea, Singapore offers very limited beachfront living. Hence the dream to retire to a seaside commune in this populous city-island-state is often a pipe dream. NTUC Health Senior Daycare at Pasir Ris, an affordable Eldercare, approaches this dream by infusing the centre with the vibe of a seaside resort.
Featuring hues of the sea, sky and dune, visitors are welcomed to a bistro experience at the entrance. A sense of expansive openness with draping greenery, wood-toned leaf motifs and turquoise furniture sets the mood.
This relaxing vibe continues to the main dining area. Lush outdoor greenery showcased by floor to ceiling windows is augmented by live indoor plants and overhanging ferns. A variety of sitting options cater to individual preferences. A subtle array of hues for chair coverings evokes the undulating colors of the sea and visually brightens the centre.
A big part of the Senior Daycare experience revolves around eating & dining – breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are interspersed with imaginative activities to stimulate the seniors. From Bingo to digital games, caregivers have found that food themes resonate best with the seniors. As a bonus, these activities whet the appetite.
In the late afternoon, seniors transition to the activity hall. Wall murals of birds and coconut trees in the double volume space complements floor finishes that suggests lapping waves against the sandy shore of a seaside chalet. A relaxing afternoon spent watching a movie on the large screen while sipping a beverage of choice is the perfect way to end the day at the centre.
